If you look at someone's photo on their profile page and see an icon or image in the lower right corner, it's probably a gift.

Members can earn credits to send their friends virtual gifts. The member can choose to highlight one gift they've received by adding it to their profile photo.

You can feature any one gift of your choosing on your profile at any time.

    1) Visit the "Gifts" page by selecting "Gifts" in the main menu.

    2) Select "Inbox/Sent" from the gifts menu at the top of the page. If you're on a mobile device, this menu appears when you click the red arrow.

    3) Hover over the gift you'd like to feature or tap it if you're on a mobile device. You'll see a display like the one below, though your gift will probably not be the laptop with the heart.

The red circle with the minus sign lets you decline the gift.

The gray checkmark will let you feature it on your profile. It turns green when you've activated it.

Clicking the gift icon enables you to send your gift-giver a gift in return.

Start by signing up.  There may be a brief period of time while your account is waiting authorization from an admin before you can begin posting, but you will receive an e-mail as soon as you're approved. Once that happens, jump in wherever you'd like. It's not a bad idea to browse the FAQ some more and review the tutorials while you wait.

There are four ways you can get credits.

    1) You can earn them by being active on the site. There is a full list of credit-earning opportunities on the Credts FAQ page. This is Muggy's preferred method.

    2) Someone can give you credits. All members can transfer credits to their friends, but visiting their Manage Credits page.

    3) An admin can give you credits. If you've been especially helpful around the site or win a contest, the site admin may choose to award you with any number of credits.

    4) You can purchase credits. If you'd like to send out a bunch of gifts to your friends and don't have enough credits to do so, you can purchase them with cash. answerMug uses PayPal to handle the transaction, so your data is secured by them and answerMug never receives any of your financial info. We'd really prefer that you earn them, but if you want to buy them, the funds go to site upkeep and development, which is super cool. You can purchasse them on your Manage Credits page.

We don't guarantee a set amount of time. We presently have one admin who approves accounts and sometimes she sleeps or leaves her computer for coffee. If you join while she's at her computer, you could be up and running in minutes. If you join while she's sleeping, it could be eight hours (Probably not. She's not that lucky.)

While this may seem like a total pain in the rear for newcomers, it helps us handle moderation better. With one admin and only a few volunteers moderating, it would get pretty nutty if anyone could just walk in at any point in time. We don't like playing Whack-a-Mole with accounts we've deactivated either, so we check who's coming in before we unlock the door. It makes for a better experience for our existing members, even though it can take a little while to get in.

It's generally safe to say that if your account has not been activated within 24-48 hours, it probably won't be. If you used privacy software or a proxy when you joined, that's probably why you didn't get activated. If this is the case, withdraw your entry/ close the account, skip the proxy, and sign up again. If you can't figure out why you didn't get in and it's been more than 24 hours, you can use the "Contact Admin" link on the bottom of the page to check with the admin.

The Feedback tab can be used anytime you want to speak directly with the admin. It gives you the equivalent of a private inbox, where you can talk about your thoughts, ideas, or concerns and the admin will respond by either changing the status or commenting back to you.

You can use the Feedback tab for reporting issues as well, but please be sure to include a link to the troublesome content if you do.

At this point in time, the Mug does not make a profit and is not operating as a traditional business does. Our moderators are volunteers and most of the site's funding is paid by the site admin. However, like any other "business" we have fees to pay to keep our lights on and keep up with development projects.

We earn revenue from a few different areas. At this point in time, our biggest generator is the Taboola ads, which link to content around the web. You'll often see them on the bottom or side of a page and we get paid each time someone clicks on a story.

We also have banner ads that you'll see on the tops of pages, which work on a bidding system. Advertisers tend to look at our traffic and then decide what they're willing to pay for a day of advertising. So, in these cases, you help us pay our bills just by being here and using the site normally.

Members may also purchase credits to buy virtual gifts. We don't encourage this, though- we'd prefer that people earn credits by using the site. However, the can be bought fairly inexpensively for those who want to help the Mug and spread some joy around the site.

From time to time, we dabble in sponsorship as well. If you run a business and would like to advertise on answerMug or sponsor us, please use the link at the bottom of the page to contact the site admin.

Lastly, we also accept donations. These are processed by PayPal, so it's safe and secure. They protect your data and answerMug never even sees your credit card information. You don't need to have a PayPal account to help, and any amount is greatly appreciated. You can access the donation portal here.

We try to keep the main areas of the site friendly for everyone, so we hide all of our adult content in an area that's restricted to adults who opt-in. We refer to this as our "adult network," but it's really just a hidden part of answerMug. You don't need to sign up for a special account or pay to access it, but you do need to tell the system that you're an adult who wants to see it.

To join the adult network, adults may go to the "Muggers" section of the main menu and select "Join Adult Network." Follow the instructions there- it's a quick process that will have you up and running in 20 seconds or less... unless you read all the legal notices, in which case, get yourself a pot of coffee first.

Once you opt-in, a new button will appear in your menu that says "Adult." This will take you to a directory of all our adult groups, which you will have instant access to. You'll also notice that your activity feeds and notifications also contain content from the adult groups.

Please keep in mind that, although answerMug may look pretty raunchy to you after this, only you and the other Adult Network members see it this way- the rest of the folks will still see a clean Mug. So, please be sure to monitor yourself, and know when you're posting in an adult section, versus the main areas of the site, which still need to be kept clean. If at any point, you change your mind and don't want to see the adult content, you can leave the Adult Network by going back to the page you joined it on. *poof* answerMug will appear to be wholesome and clean again.

answerMug does not have a blocking system. Instead, we do our best to provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all, and we monitor/ moderate issues as necessary. Habitual "troubled" Muggers are escorted out.

If you're having trouble with a specific member because they're bullying, attacking, stalking, or otherwise violating our TOS, please report them. Most content includes "report" flags that you may use to notify the admin. You may also use the "Feedback" tab to talk with the admin. The Feedback reports allow for messages back and forth between you and the admin, so you'll always know if your report was seen and what action was taken as a result of your report. The "Feedback" tab is located on the left side of the screen for desktop users or in the main menu under home. You may also access the Feedback page here

We understand that sometimes people don't want their names attached when they're reporting something. To be clear, your report is never shared with members and the creator of the content that was reported is never told whether the issue was something the mods caught on their own or if someone reported it. Moreover, content is never removed because it was reported. It's removed when it violates our TOS. No amount of reports for content that don't violate the TOS will result in it being removed. At any rate, if you have concerns over remaining anonymous when you report, please log out of your account or open a private/ incognito window. Then, file your report using the "Contact Admin" link found in the footer menu.

Benedict Arnold was a no-good, dirty, rotten, traitor who deflected during the Revolutionary War.

Ooh... you mean here on answerMug? That's the account name that becomes associated with content when someone closes their account or gets deleted by an admin. Sure, we could just call them "deleted members" or "former members," but where's the fun in that?

If you'd like to read more about the traitor, feel free to browse the Wikipedia page about him: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benedict_Arnold

If you are part of the original group of Muggers and used the original site, it may look like a lot of the groups you joined have vanished. They didn't! They're all still here.

Our groups system works slightly different now, in order to provide ease of use for members and to keep adult content away from minors and those who don't wish to see it. Instead of making people browse through all the groups to find one they want, and then signing up and waiting for approval, we created a way to give you instant access to all of them and to search a list of just the adult groups.

If you're missing groups right now, it's probably because you are not yet signed up on our adult network. You can click the "Join Adult Network" button in the main menu. After you have done this, all the adult groups will become visible to you and you'll see them in your group lists again.

You'll also get a tab added to your main menu that lets you browse all the adult groups at once. If you click it now, before you've opted into the adult network, you'll see a blank page. After you've opted-in, it will populate with all the different adult groups we have to offer.

You may also note that we're reenabled group creation, so if you think of a group we don't have, but should, you can add it in.

We hate to see you go! If you're having an issue that the admin can help with, please use the feedback tab or "contact" button at the bottom of the page to notify her.

If you just aren't feelin' the Mug vibe, we understand. You can delete your account by clicking "settings" in the black bar at the top and then choosing "delete account" from the options at the top of the page.

Account deletion is permanent and most of your content gets removed when you go. Anything that stays, such as discussions others are involved in, will be relabled as being posted as "Benedict Arnold." You can always open up a new account after you've deleted one, but you can never be attached to your old content again.

The best place to learn all of the rules is on our Terms of Service page, but here's a quick rundown to get you started:

Please respect all other muggers and their beliefs. Yes, we're a diverse bunch, but there's no reason we can't get along peacefully.  It's ok to disagree- perhaps even healthy, but it's never ok to attack or belittle any individual or group.

All of the main areas are intended to be fun for everyone. This is why we don't allow cursing, discussions of a sexual nature or discussions promoting illegal drug use in the Q&A, the Main/clean chat, the blogs, the pictures or the videos. Pornography and nudity is not permitted either. Yet, we understand that muggers sometimes need to let loose and this is why we offer adultMug and Free-for-All.

Should you be found in violation of policy, the following consequences apply:

    In Chat

Unintentional (we all slip up sometimes): 1st time - warning, 2nd time- 15 minute chat suspension, 3rd time- 1 hour chat suspension, 4th time- 24 hour chat suspension, 5th time- 2 day site suspension.

In regards to cursing in chat (drum-roll, please...): Censored cursing is permitted, provided you only use the first letter and asterisks on the rest and not to excess, excess being defined as no more than three times in a five minute period.  Not following these guidelines is subject to the aforementioned penalties and is considered an intentional violation of the chat rules.

Intentional (all attacks on other users are considered intentional): 1st time- warning, 2nd time- 1 hour chat suspension, 3rd time- 24 hour chat suspension, 4th time- 48 hour site suspension. *Please note that if you are on a Main room/ Clean chat suspension, you are still permitted in the other chat rooms and on the rest of the site. However, should you continue to violate policy while already on a chat suspension, you will receive a 48 hour site suspension immediately.

    Elsewhere on answerMug

We do not presently have the ability to move adult discussions to Adultia or Free-for-All. Please take this into consideration when you decide where to post your questions, as once a moderator has deleted content, it is gone forever.

Posting inappropriate content- Your post will be deleted and you will receive a note to place the content in a more appropriate area. If we believe the offense was intentional or it becomes habitual you will receive:

1st offense- Warning, 2nd offense- 48 hour site suspension, 3rd offense- suspension length will be determined by a vote of the moderators and may include permanent ban from answerMug.

Kindly keep in mind that we're all here to enjoy each others' company and hopefully learn a thing or two. The moderation team would prefer to not have to enforce any policies and we ask that you monitor yourselves so we don't have to.

It's also important to note that as answerMug grows, policies may change and moderators may have to make judgement calls and issue independent decisions as issues arise. Our moderators are volunteers who want answerMug to be a pleasant experience for everyone.

    Please enjoy your Mug responsibly.
