  • No.  If one does not wish to participate, don't.  The entire culture need not change to accommodate those who don't care to observe the day.

    Thanks for answering. I'm of the opinion that we should acknowledge and apologize for our rather sordid past, rather than continue to celebrate it. I am thankful to live in a country where we can express our opinions, even if they conflict with what the government currently holds as law or customs, aren't you?
