I'm watching the Mars movie on PBS. Do you know going to Mars doesn't seem like much fun?

The movies shows how life will be on Mars. The weather is hostile. Being with a few people will get on your nerves. Plants die. It's like being in prison. The space they are in is very small.  Prison isn't fun. Things break all the time. Worse than earth.

Oh, it's The National Geographic channel. It's a simulated trip. Not sure where it is.

Hey, maybe we can turn it into a prison planet. Sort of like Australia but farther away from the rest of us. Just send all the mega bad criminals over there or something.

When something breaks on Earth, your life usually is not at stake. Since everything they take along is vital, nothing broken can easily be done without. I say before any manned exploration or even landing there should be a decade of bombarding Mars with supplies, tools and building materials. Once pioneers arrive they finish setting up. Gone is some of the risk of having everything in one shot. I still wouldn't do it. Mars is so hostile any mistake or miscalculation by you or anyone else can be fatal for everyone. The reward is not enough.
