I manually calculated everything at the start of December, but I'm waiting for my docs to come in before I can file. Doesn't really matter much because we have to wait until February now to get a refund. :/

Actually they will begin accepting returns Jan 23. Refunds are always beginning of February.  This post was edited by my2cents at January 8, 2017 11:18 AM MST

I haven't gotten my W-2 yet or other papers, so I can't file yet.  I pretty much always get a refund, but I began collecting Social Security last year and I'm still employed, so I'm not sure about this year. This post was edited by SpunkySenior at January 8, 2017 11:17 AM MST

That will depend on the income from the job to determine how much it any of the SS you have to claim.

  • I'll probably have to pay this year. My daughter is now 19 and I got a bit of an inheritance this year.

    Loosing deductions does hurt some.

  • Yes it does. I've been getting a really good refund since I had my daughter..She will be filing her own taxes this year.

Actually if she is still at home and a full time student you can still claim her (until 24 if both are met). You might figure what she would have gotten back and give that to her out of your refund if you still claim her.

I am  just about done with mine. I have my own business so I don't have to wait for any W2s or the like. I do expect to get a refund.
