Gifs won't post as movable images. Our servers work like Apple devices, in this respect- they save them as static images. If you want a gif to be animated, it has to be stored somewhere else and hotlinked here. However, there's a tutorial on uploading videos here: http://answermug.com/faq/view/46/14/15/0/how-do-i-add-a-video-to-my-blog-question-comment-poll-etc

You know, it is surprising how many sites work like that. and pcactically no sites gives a list of which formats are supported and which are not. It can be quite frustrating when you are new on a site and want to know things like "did it not work because I did it wrong, or because the format is not supported, or because my upload failed, or ... There are so many things that could be the reason. So you only really learn a site after trying practically everything ;).
