A question for Terry Pratchett fans:

I read and enjoyed Pratchett's "Empire" and wanted more. So I started with "The Colour of Magic", the first of the Discworld stories. I gave up. Are all the Discworld stories as silly as that or did I just pick a bad one?

No, I'm not rubbishing him: I'd genuinely like to read the series but that came across as nonsense.

    1) Yes, they are all as silly as that
    2) But if you read them you discover that they are not really all that silly. Or maybe rather: that even the silliness have a more serious purpose.

PS: the 'really first' book in the diskworld series was "Strata", just as silly but it makes it easier to recognize point 2 above :-))

  • Thanks, Jakob. I'll see if my library has a copy. Appreciate the reply.
