The frightening thing is that our government has all this cutting edge tech and yet are dragging their feet to fix the problem. Russia, China or whoever is hacking anything and everything at will. This post was edited by Zack at January 13, 2017 10:41 AM MST

  • Russia is far more interested in Europe than anything else Rosie.  That is where their main geopolitical ambitions currently seem to lie.

Russia will only want a compliant and agreeable (and quiet) US presidency, which is all it needs to advance it's causes.  The US has a huge amount invested in Europe, but whether Trump will recognise the importance of this to US long term interests is, I think, debatable.

if he doesn't, decades of US foreign policy will go up in smoke and the US will inevitably 'lose ground' in countries across Europe.  What the lives of US citizens will be like I can't begin to guess, but there is little doubt that abandonment of current policy would make the US less influential (and therefore less powerful) worldwide.

Unless.... there ensues a level of cooperation between Russia and the US to put pressure on China.  Russia would be very pleased with that and the Chinese would be furious.  Given the growing influence of China and Russian ambitions to once again be a world player, that might be something some people are thinking about at senior levels.

But whichever way it goes, someone is going to get shafted.  It might be people in Eastern Europe when Russia comes knocking and the US barely raises an eyebrow, or it may be a continuation of the land grab the Chinese have been at for years in the South China Sea.  If the US draws back from it's world role, or changes it significantly, it will signal at least a partial return to the 19th century geopolitics of national expansionism.

Which, as we know, always ends well.  :)

Well with Trump at the helm he will crash us on the nearest shoals and then blame the ocean, the ship of state, the people. He will never admit he is the biggest pimple that needs to be  squeezed. Never.
