I've always loved animals, I remember my mother got me a rat as a first pet. She always wanted one but her parent never let her so she got one for me. They're very smart and loving little critters, I just wish they lived longer.

  • (I'm very partial to rodents. I started with hamsters, downgraded to a mouse, but never got up to a rat. What was it's name?)

I think my first rat's name was Polly. She was a black hooded rat, a very sweet little girl.

  • Thank you, that's made me unexpectedly emotional.

  • "No" ... my family always had at least one dog. Mostly just mutts, but they were good companions for us kids.
The first dog I remember the family having was a Newfoundland.  I was three and he was bigger than I was.

  • We always had dogs. Started a lifelong love affair with them. Mind you, when we lose our present dog -- and that must happen this year -- we won't buy another. This post was edited by Benedict Arnold at January 31, 2017 5:49 AM MST

  • No.   I always wanted our dogs.  Our house was a zoo when  I was a kid.  Dog, cat, garter snake,  hamster, gerbils.   anoles.   Some fish.
