Mistletoe is an ongoing problem in the mountains where I live. It strangles eucalypts as well as other trees.

Do you see it as a symbol of Christmas or a parasitic nuisance in need of eradication?

    Frankly the only time I see any real mistletoe is in December. Even then it is mostly artificial. Is it hard to eradicate?  I know eucalyptus had many medicinal properties. While mistletoe only helps to pass a cold or the flu (via kissing).

  • But it's a nice way to spread disease, Ancient. Or at least, I think I remember it that way. I don't know about eradicating it on a wide scale; not so hard to clear out of a garden though.

  • Hmm never thought about it that much to be honest.. I suppose it is a parasite, but doesn't seem that damaging a one..  it looks interesting, which is a point in its favour.. Mind you I did learn something here. I never knew it liked eucalypts.. I thought it only liked apple trees and poplar.. so there you have educated me :)

  • Mistletoes will do what mistletoes do best. either looking pretty on christmas trees and on front doors or being a nuisance to some people.

  • It's around here but it doesn't do much damage.   Even the trees with it usually still do okay.
