Can we put an embassy wherever the he** we want or do we need permission/an invitation? Why move the US embassy in Israel to Jerusalem?

    Technically speaking you can establish an embassy in a corner telephone booth if you want. BUT! and there is a big but. The host country has to approve the establishment, land purchase, and construction (not the design) of the physical building which you would call an embassy. To move an embassy, again there is so much "red tape" it takes years, unless there are  horrific life and death reasons. Even so location, location, location needs approval of the host country (primarily because the embassy property would become part of a foreign country). Nations can, with the approval of the host country, rent properties and land but they do not have the same ststus diplomatically as an embassy.

    We should have our embassy where Israel says it's capital is..... Jerusalem. 
    We would need permission from Israel.
