Why, in many game universes, is there a meta-assumption that Elves are promiscuous?

While reading through the Mr. Welch list, I've noticed a lot of items about elves, notably elven women, being promiscuous. I've never thought along these lines myself, so where does the idea come from? Is it simply a result of the idea of elves being preternaturally attractive combined with the idea of being played by a perverted gamer? Or are there some fiction/fan-fiction around that have caused this trope to manifest?

    When it comes to gaming I am completely clueless so I am really not interested in game elves. Real ones however usually have multiple personalities..
