If TV ever had a golden age has it now gone platinum?

There have been and are some really good shows out there. The writing superb!

  • Probably so! Some of the shows from the 50's and 60's are true classics now and deserve platinum.

    Did Kitty, I think her name was, run a saloon or a whorehouse with Matt Dillon her favorite customer?

    Yes, Kitty ran the town saloon/whorehouse, but the whorehouse part was never mentioned in the TV show. Matt Dillon was the town marshall who hung out in the saloon as did the town doctor (pictured) and marshall's deputy, Festus.

    The marshall's deputy/sidekick had several different actors over the years - Dennis Weaver, Burt Reynolds and Ken Curtis (pictured) were among them.

    Gunsmoke was a excellent show. there are many old shows playing which were classics.

  • Nah.  There really is only a small handful of good shows and those that are tend to be niche.

    TV is enormously better than it was in 1961 when Newton Minnow, FCC Chairman,  called it a "vast wasteland". After an initial attempt at high-brow entertainment mixed with comedy shows in the late 40s and 50s, by 1961 TV had sunk to a lowest common denominator where it stagnated for decades.

    With the arrival of cable, television has provided quality programming although still saddled with a generous dollop of junk viewing.
