How reliable is Rolling Stone magazine?

I've never read it but from time-to-time see it quoted as a source for various subjects far beyond the entertainment industry. What's YOUR experience? Is it a trustworthy or is social and political commentary beyond its scope?

  • Actually they have been  found numerous times to print unreliable or downright false information and never print retractions or corrections.

  • That was the feeling I had. They were quoted as a source in an answer to one of my questions and I didn't think they were worth following up. Then I wondered if it was just my own prejudice, so I asked for opinions.

  • They're one of the weird ones.  When you can verify it with other sources they often have a very detailed report but on the flip they have on numerous occasions reported on things that turned out to be completely untrue.

  • Thanks, Glis. I'll put them back on my list of sources not to be trusted.

  • They certainly have an on-line presence. I assume they're still publishing in print as well.

Well, their music- related interviews are OK, but their political related stuff is rather leftist. Just like celebrities.

  • They are as unreliable as Breitbart and The Salon. They are pretty far left-wing and have been known to produce inaccurate articles/lie.

  • That's almost a consensus opinion, Jeremy. Thanks.
Next time I read it will be the first and, clearly, there's not likely to be a next time. :)

  • They are okay when they stick to music, but o often disagree with their critiques of artists and their music.

  • It is one of the media with a leftist bias, and it has lies and practices other forms of deception to support that bias.
