  • In their traditional cultures I think they can work because the couple believe in them and that a wise decision has been made on their behalf ... That's my view from the outside and I don't know how accurate it is ... It would be interesting to compare longevity and happiness between them and normal marriages

But D...maariages aren't arranged on their behalf, the couple's willingness is first taken into consideration, the families    of both groom and bride try to help...so isn't arranged marriage a normal marriage...tell me?

  • For some cultures yes, an arranged marriage would be a normal marriage ... But that's different to a western cultures idea of normal

  • And as someone once said... Marriage is a wonderful institution ... But who wants to live in an institution :)

Umm maybe there was no dating, no kissing no premarital sex but rest all are the same as is in an  unarranged marriage....

  • And if that is what you are used to then I see no problem .... In most cases ... unless you are already in love with someone else

Yes,being an Indian, like most Indian marriages, mine was arranged, I hadn't dated, kissed or had sex before marriage, uptill now both me and my hubby have had only each other. Our families saw whether financially, educationally, economically we were suited for each other, and you may laugh but our horoscopes also had to tally....it  sounds very unromantic I'm afraid but love can blossom after marriage too....;)) This post was edited by Veena.K at February 23, 2017 7:46 PM MST

  • As I said above I think if that is what you are used to then there is a good chance it will work because you believe it will work so you make it come true ... And right now I don't think western marriage should be upheld as a shiny example lol ... Not with the divorce rate

Agree D....neither am I upholding arranged marriage;))
Actually, in our place, people envy westerners because they have the freedom to date and experiment, a western women has so much independence.....and the society accepts more than one marriage... too....step mother, step father, step brothers sisters....thait's awesome....like you said there are pros and cons in both;)) This post was edited by Veena.K at February 23, 2017 7:55 PM MST

  • I think they should be on a contract basis maybe... It goes up for renewal every X number of years ... I have doubts about one person being able to satisfy all your needs for thirty, forty or fifty! years ..
