Any idea why a polar bear is the mascot for a dark rum made in Australia?

Rum is made from a crop that grows in tropical and sub tropical climates.   Australia is perhaps the farthest populated place from where polar bears exist in the wild.

I  just don't get the connection?

Maybe the Aussies can help me out.

  • Ok... To put you out of your collective miseries.  In  1961, the company introduced the polar bear as its unusual choice of mascot, to imply that the rum could ward off the coldest chill.[3]

  • I couldn't have answered the question but Bundy rum has a lot of fans among the hard drinkers. They even wrote a song about it:

  • Back in the day I learned one memorable lesson about Bundy rum. You do NOT drink it with a 6' 5", 320 lb German. Boy! What a hangover.

  • I'm a German boy and roughly that weight to height ratio.  Not much of a rum fan though.

Oh you see Glis that black rum may make you intoxicated enough to see a white polar bear....ok I googled right now and saw that polar bear is not white and their fur is actually transparent and holds no color.

I loved the song. What I found interesting, is it true Didge, they sell it in cans? WHAT A CONCEPT! I personally have never seen hard stuff in cans.
