  • It's called cognitive  dissonance Rosie... it means believing what your mind already "knows to be true" and ignoring everything else :)

    confirmation bias, isn't it?

Cognitive dissonance--- the state of having inconsistent thoughts, beliefs, or attitudes, especially as relating to behavioral decisions and attitude change

Thank you Ozgirl. I have heard of "cognitive dissonance" but I didn't really understand what it meant and I was too lazy to Google it. That is very helpful and I thank you for your reply.  WHY do so many people cling to that? Is it something out of their control? Is it an automatic reflex? Have they been programmed in some way to react like that? It is so puzzling to me and I can't even guess why. I will Google "cognitive dissonance" and maybe some of the answers to these questions will be found there. Happy Spring Forward Sunday in the USA to you m'dear! :)

  • I think to an extent we all cling to ideas that make us feel safe ... trying something different and unknown is scary ... as an example i often see Sheridan talk about socialist Europe in almost derogatory  fashion... yet eyepiece as a whole are happier abs more content than Americans... and don't go round shooting each other :)

America is "exceptional m'dear". The only so-called civilized country in the world that refuses to provide health care for all its citizens. A country where guns are worshipped beyond measure and valued in the extreme and any attempt to control ownership of them is rejected absolutely no matter how many massacres we have. We used to pretend we were special. No one pretends any more. We have The Donald to thank for that. He was elected because he is a liar. Lying got him to where he is today and lying will keep him there. Go figger! :(  He has taken deceit/duplicity to its highest level.  That's what America is today. He is our face!  I am so saddened by that. Thank you for your reply Ozgirl! :)

  • Believe it or not we are all saddened by it ... the aboriginals here have a belief system.. called the Dreaming ... i think that's what you have lost .. your dreaming of what you could be :)

Steve Bannon said he wanted to deconstruct government. It is  happening daily here. Our foundation and weight-bearing walls are being demolished. I just asked a question about it m'dear! Thank you for your reply! :)

  • Maybe the availability of guns has something to do with that. Maybe it's not just the level of contentment.

  • But how does your mind know what is true. I'm not disagreeing with you, Oz, on the contrary. But what allows opposing thinking to think that one is truer over the other.

  • I don't know if it's ever possible to say this is the truth ... But i think reading from different and various sources ... Rather than those you just agree with, goes some way to arriving at the truth ... Also the reputation of the source is important and their alignment or political allies .. for example All Jazeera news source was started to counteract the American influence in reporting the news... Mainly against CNN i think.... And that seem to be a reputable unbiased news source ... Of course i don't know this to be true but their reporting and interpretations seem to go along with others ... At the end of the day i guess you can never really know,

I know it's said, 'trust but verify', but my old-school demeanor causes me to 'verify then trust'.

    Far too many.

((hugs)) So there is a book out on it Beans? Geez Louise Puhleez! :(  This graphic is so spot-on true. Isn't that a sad thing though? But honestly more and more it seems that stupidity/duplicity/deceit is becoming revered and their opposites are being ignored/demeaned/ridiculed. Scary as he** is what it is! Thank you for your reply and the graphic and Happy Spring Forward Sunday in the USA to  you m'dear! :)

The election has shown us that the majority of voters are idiots and they don't even know it or they don't care that they are idiots.

Not the majority my friend.  The Donald LOST the popular vote by almost 3 million! BUT 62 million voted for him and therein lies the problem. That is a significant number of human beings. I just don't understand how so many people could be so easily bamboozled! Every day it's something else...never a GOOD something else. Thank you for your reply Zack and Happy Spring Forward Sunday in the USA! :)

    Nah---it's just easier.

Relives the believer of the necessity of thinking.

Many people don't get much practice in thinking and are therefore not very comfortable with the requirements.

Thinking is hard work. It's easier to just cede that WORK to others so you don't have to bother your pretty little mind..or handsome little mind..as the case may be. SIGH. Thank you for your reply tom and Happy Spring Forward Sunday in the USA! :)

Do you know WHY that is WW?  Folks prefer zero quality crappy junk fantasy to the high quality of reality? Are their brains wired differently? Or are brains not involved at all...only emotion? Every day I wonder if this will be the day these folks wake up and smell the coffee and realize that what we are going through now is their fault for having elected such a dangerous weirdo to the highest office in the world. I can't even almost guess why. If there were just a few of them I'd say "they are anomalies". But 62 million who voted for  The Donald? That is way more than happenstance/oddity. Thank you for your thought reply and Happy Spring Forward Sunday in the USA to you! :)

People obviously prefer to believe lies instead of the sober truth. 2timothy 4:3 says: "for there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the wholesome teaching, but according to their own desires, they will surround themselves with teachers to have their ears tickled." Dear rosie, I know it seems as though that day will never come. I will now share with you this information found at our website jw.org Sunday March 12- daily text: habacuc 2:3 "for the vision is yet for its appointed time, and it is rushing toward its end, and it will not lie. Even if it should delay, keep in expectation of it! For it will without fail come true. It will not be late!"
For the composite sign of Christ's presence to serve its purpose, the fulfillment of it would have to be obvious enough to command the attention of those who have been obeying jesus' counsel to "keep on the watch " (Matthew 24:27,42) and that has been the case since 1914. From that time onward, the features of the sign have been undergoing fulfillment.  Clearly, we are now, living in "the conclusion of the system of things" - a limited period of time leading up to and including the destruction of this wicked system. (Matthew 24:3)why, then, should Christians today keep in expectation? Out of obedience to Jesus Christ, we remain in expectation. Also, we recognize the sign of his presence.  Our expectations are based, not on a naive readiness to believe anything, but on solid scriptural evidence that compels us to remain vigilant, awake, watchful and, yes, in expectation of this wicked system's end.
