    I have found Dell to be a solid product.  When the Thinkpad was an IBM product it was the best laptop on the market.  It was a solid rough tough workhorse.  They sold the brand to Lenovo and as far as I can tell, it's now rubbish. 

    I currently have a Dell desktop, an Acer laptop still in the box and an HP laptop which I am using now.  I'm traveling and my nine year old Dell 10" laptop started a slow death so I stopped and bought this HP at a big box store which was a new and educating experience.  The masses must get ripped from stem to stern by patronizing those stores.  I must say  I am enjoying  my first HP product.

    It's a $500 laptop that is replacing my dying Dell which is my travel machine.  This will be my travel machine now.  It will have sporadic heavy use at most.

  • Lenovo is the better of the two brands by far but ASUS is the best for the money. Take a look at them first!

    I do believe you will do the wise thing and research what you really need plus what you want and triple check all reviews then buy the one you want. Good luck. (I am sorry but I an not that great recommending computers.)

  • I did read some reviews before asking the question, Ancient. You were perfectly correct. I settled on a Lenovo. I think I'm happy with it but haven't loaded all the software yet.

    hows everything working out for you? how is the new laptop?.. my new HP Chromebook 14 (Intel G4) arrived in the mail the other day (had to order it from the states because well, Canada only has Acer at best buy) and i like it lots.. the screen display is slightly washed out, but it has good performance for what i use it for, has decent sound, and a fantastic keyboard.   • I think we're going to be very happy together. My only problem is the tiny Shift key on the right side. I type rather quickly and my finger hasn't yet learned how to find it without looking. But it seems likely to be everything I want.

    (Had a hiccup yesterday when it took ages to do a major repair on the HD. I was a bit apprehensive but it seems to have solved whatever problem occurred.)
