Is it bad luck to keep a leprechaun as a pet?

One is not allowed have one in most states here. I don't know about Ireland.

I am a dog lover.

Leprechauns are more like cats in that they choose us, rather than the other way around.

So far, mine has treated me quite well.

Probably. What do leprechauns eat anyway? Lucky Charms? Rainbows? The souls of lost children? If it dies in your care there's never going to be a Saint Patrick's Day again. Nobody wants to be the person that ruined Saint Patrick's day.

Nietzsche warned of the dangers of pet leprechauns. He said, "If you stare too long at a leprechaun pet the leprechaun will stare right back at you." The implication, of course, is that it is we who may become pet to the leprechaun.
