How many famous, successful Irish people can you name?

Ireland has produced high achievers in many fields. There was Nobel laureate, Ernest Walton, who split the atom in 1931; Shaw and Yeats, both literary giants; artists like Jack Yeats (see pic). Who would you like to honour by listing them here?

  • Both great writers. I may have mentioned him on another site, but have you ever read any of George Russell's poetry (written under the name of A.E.). It's very mystical and, to borrow Huxley's term, has the ability to transport you.

  • Glis, and Ozgirl, I was reading online about Irish slang...and Guinness is "the black."
    As in I will take a drink of The Black (or something like that...)

  • No one has mentioned the Three Irish Tenors yet. I had the pleasure of seeing them in concert last year when they came to Nashville for the very first time. :)

  • They are fantastic. Here's a pic of my friend, Marshall, with Ronan, we ran into him in the lobby after the concert. I was laughing because Marshall was fan girling all over him :)

  • It was. I really had a good time listening to them, their voices are beautiful. Didn't realize I knew so many Irish songs either.  I think my favorite that evening was Tura Lura Lura.
