How would you like to live 32,068 miles above the earth in an enormous skyscraper hanging from an Asteroid? Why?

New York Artichects are planning one.  Probably those with acrophobia should pass. Interested in visiting if and when?

I would say they must really be 'high' on something.

I can't imagine HOW they would build it, can you? Thank you for your reply bh and Happy Thursday! :)

The building would be 10s of millions of miles tall to be 32000 miles from earth.

It hangs from an asteroid in space. It isn't grounded on earth Ele. How do they build it though?   Thank you for your reply and Happy Thursday! :)

The asteroid belt is approximately 150 million miles from earth. That's one heck of a long cable. Also, the asteroids are orbiting the sun at a different rate than the earth is, thus making it impossible to do since the skyscraper would be in constant rapid motion in relation to the earth. I think those architects must be stoned. This post was edited by Element 99 at March 30, 2017 2:26 PM MDT

What cable Ele? The skyscraper would be attached to the asteroid not earth. I'm clearly having difficulty following you m'dear. Could you tell me why I should care about a cable?  Thanks! :)

Because you can't build a 150 million mile long building.

Why do you think it has to  be that long  Ele? It has nothing to do with Earth. It is built on an asteroid.

I imagine it would be freezing and no oxygen and it would probably constantly be hit by space debris.

How would you build it? Imagine space ships flying to the selected asteroid loaded with building materials. Certainly a  FANTASTIC idea though. Thank you for your reply Patch and Happy Thursday!  :)

  • I wouldn't want to live in any kind of skyscraper.
