When you're out in the garden, or outdoors in a park

would you rather watch butterflies or dragonflies? Which do you think are the most beautiful?

I always thought dragonflies were way cooler.

  • We have two outdoor fish ponds and get lots of dragonflies hovering around. They're definitely cool. I could watch them for ages.

  • Barbarian!

Reminds me of the Friday afternoon I left the office and had this enlightening conversation with the Japanese receptionist:

    Me: Sayonara, Sadako san.
    She: Sayonara. Ii shimatsu o.
    Me (intelligently): Huh?
She: I said, "Have a good weekend."
Me: What's Japanese for "Don't forget the Aeroguard?"
    She (intelligently): Huh?

  • We have so many different kinds of dragonflies 'round here and they are GROSS!
Jokes aside I'll take a picture of them when they get in season so you can see how they blanket anything white.

  • I've never seen them in that kind of quantity. I can see how it could be a bit off-putting.

  • It's OK, Stormy. They're in abundance this year. You can have a couple of each. They make nice pets. You don't have to feed them, don't have to clean up after them, and there are no vets fees.

  • Dragonflies are rarer, but they're also kind of scary. Don't want one of those things anywhere near my face.

  • Sorry about that Nevan. I may have put an image in your mind that could come back in your dreams and bite you on the nose. :)

I like to see both! I don't compare things like that.

Mind you, if I were a butterfly I don't think I'd want to see a dragonfly, having once watched one catch a butterfly and eat it, in flight. It spat the wings out.
