Fairy originates from Fates. The Fates were three mythological goddesses that weaved the fate of men. They were known as Moirai in Greek, Parcae in Rome, Sudice in Slavic mythology, Norns in Norse mythology, Matres in Germanic mythology. They have also been referred to as witches. They controlled every mortals life from birth to death, so I doubt that they were too worried about the rain :)

But of course, that must be the answer, with the wings fixed on their back, their hands are free to hold an umbrella ;-))
