My deceased older sister married a guy named "Fairchild". Then they split and she married a guy named "Morgan". She never had a chance to meet Mr. Freeman.

    Ask Andy Andie McDowell?

The only answer to the question is they have the same first name because that's what they were named. Or maybe named themselves, who knows?

That's spelled differently, therefore it doesn't count. It's like Leslie/Lesley.

The female version of "Terry" is usually spelled "Teri". I don't remember the name "Morgan" being a gender-neutral name when I was in school, yet the two Morgans I mentioned are both considerably older than me. Strange, isn't it? Lol:)

Who is Andy McDowell? Do I know him? I did know some brothers named McDowell years ago but I don't think any of them was called Andy. I didn't get on very well with them anyway so I had little to do with them.

I was thinking of actress/model Andie McDowell. Your question is a poor one, since it presumes there is some underlying reason why the two people would have the same first name, other than that that is what they are named.

"I was thinking of actress/model Andie McDowell"

Is that so? Well, why didn't you say so in the first place, instead of waiting for me to comment back and then altering your original answer?

I'm not unrelaxed, it's just that I cannot see two different spellings of names as one and the same in cases such as this. I like that spinning seal, where did you get that from? Who did the music for it? I could imagine Mike Oldfield playing a tune like that. :)

Obviously, it's because there are many first names that have been deemed to be "gender neutral". Many of them are even spelled the same!!! :)

While many are shortened versions of a more formal given name, not all of them are.

Strange as it may seem, I don't remember the name Morgan being deemed "gender-neutral" when I was in school, even though the two Morgans I referred to are both a lot older than me. It is even more confusing when there is no difference in the spelling to differentiate between them. It's not so bad when there is one spelling for men and a different spelling for women, at least we can tell t'other from which. For example, Leslie is a male spelling and Lesley is a female spelling, I already knew that when I was in junior school from knowing people of both genders with that name and checking the spellings. But when the same spelling is used for both genders it does get a little bit confusing, don't you think?

They are are famous people of opposite sexes, who share the same first name that's spelled the same. You  mentioned "Leslie".....

I know who Leslie Nielsen is, I've seen some of his movies. The rest I am unfamiliar with but I would assume they were all male with that spelling.

Is it? I asked it in all innocence. My guess would be that they are all from the same family. :)
