Since I don't drink alcohol, festivities around here carry with them a certain dissonance. As everybody gets more cheerful, and I stay the same.
Until it is all over, when people has been put away and it's just me and the dog.
We then, the dog and I, go out to the porch.
I light up a joint, put on my headphones, pet the dog . . .
listen. . . and everything is well.
