If Buttigieg gets the nomination and wins in November, will he be America's first gay President?

Or was James Buchanan? Homosexuality was illegal at the time, but Buchanan did live with Senator Rufus King for years, and never married.

Sanders will take too many Demoncratic Party votes away and weaken the final candidate choice.

If he is elected President and is gay, he will be the butt of many jokes from here to eternity.
The comedians of the world will have a hayday with his name and sexual preference.

Even I, who is terrible at telling jokes, can see this coming. This post was edited by Merlin at February 10, 2020 11:01 PM MST

People who make fun of other people because of personal preference drive me crazy.
Trump is not one of my favorite people and I can add this to my dislikes about the man.
It would just figure he would be the first to sign up for this distasteful attempt at a joke. This post was edited by Merlin at February 10, 2020 1:54 PM MST

That's pretty sad that a president would post jokes like that on his twitter account. What makes me laugh is Trump is always claiming to be a genius if he was really a genius he wouldn't need to ask aids to gather jokes for him he would be smart enough to make up his own. Cheers!

  • Okay, a non-idiotic answer: There‘s some evidence that James Buchanan may have been gay, but it is not proven and most likely never will be. So yes, Buttigieg will be the first gay president or at least, the first openly gay president if he wins.

Guess who does not give two poops?

I don't care where sex organs go.  Just keep them out of the OVAL office while you are supposed to be running the country.

As you mention, Buchanan lived in a different time, when gays were publicly ostracized as a matter of course. Drunks, slaveowners and child abusers got more respect.

If elected, Mayor Pete would be the first openly gay president, and it would be a big surprise.

I see one of your comments in this thread got deleted. Hmmm . . . .

I wish I had "liked" it when I saw it. (Praise the Lord, right?)

    Indeed.

Interesting that the tasteless comment that spawned it still remains...

It was Buchanan. But I am hoping for Bloomberg. He did an excellent job as mayor of NYC, which has the largest budget except for the US, California, and New York state. And, unlike Buttigieg, Sanders, and Warren, I think he can actually beat Trump.

He did a horrible job as Mayor of NYC.  He was the WORST.   And he will be a totally CRAP President.

He is good for one thing only.  BASHING TRUMP.

Bash away, Bloomie and let Bernie take the lead.  And win.

I live here, and the city was very well run during his three terms. The crime rate fell and there were never problems with nuts-and-bolts issues like trash pickup and snow removal. He did a much better job than Deblasio.

If he's only good for bashing Trump, then what's your job?

If you want Trump re-elected, then go ahead and nominate Sanders. He's too much of a loudmouth lefty wacko to have a chance in the general election.
