    1. Melania told him to stop saying "gina".
    2. He loves to blame others.
    3. He's a racist.

I think he  did /does it because he can't help being nasty.  A few days ago there was a  close up photo of his notes for a coronavirus briefing - he had crossed out corona in the word  coronavirus and wrote China above it so that he would be sure to call it the China virus .  I got a feeling that it will exculpate  and that trade deal that Trump is trying to make with China will crumble. Cheers!

He always likes to have someone else to blame. Even when he says no one is to blame, calling it the Chinese virus sends a signal.

I really wish people would learn the meaning of the word racist.

The virus came from China.  It's OK to call it the China Virus.

If calling this is racist, so is calling chow mein Chinese food. This post was edited by Thriftymaid at March 23, 2020 5:50 PM MDT

HIV was and is a bigger problem than either.

And....what does that have to do with it?

We have a long history of naming diseases after their original location. It is not racist.

Only when it doesn't already have another name. This does, and His Royal Orangeness deliberately CROSSED OUT the correct name to remind him to go xenophobic on it.

If China officials want to claim US created and released it in China. And that they did not lie to the world about the seriousness.  They can deal with the name.

He calls it that because leaders in the China government have been claiming that USA created the virus and released it in China.  So rather than have the fight Trump is referring to it as the China virus.
Also claiming they did not hide or lie to the rest of the world about it.

China is waging a propaganda war. Claiming the government behaved properly this entire time.

    It did come from China.

We have a long history of calling diseases by the place they originated.

Trump’s congenital ignorance, unbridled xenophobia and ceaseless need for someone else to blame. He likes to use divisive terms to denigrate things that don’t flatter him or his brand. Maybe you’ve noticed.

Trump has also said COVID-19 “is under control”, it “is a hoax”; and it “will go away, like a miracle”; and later, that “he knew it was a pandemic before it was a pandemic”; and then, that “it snuck up on us”. Obvious lies.

Since little to nothing Trump has yet opined about the virus, its effects or his late, dysfunctional response to it has been true, why extend him any credibility on this now....

He also castigated a reporter who actually threw him a softball question (one which Pence later answered, with a cliche - predictable, but Mike has never won any prizes for originality). Trump just can't help himself, he feels the need to attack when he needn't.

Trump also feels the need to lie when it isn't necessary.  He can't help himself.

Trump is losing patience with people staying home and the economy and stock markets in a slump.  Axios reported this morning:

    "Trump tweeted
at 10 minutes to midnight: "WE CANNOT LET THE CURE BE WORSE THAN THE PROBLEM ITSELF. AT THE END OF THE 15 DAY PERIOD [which began a week ago, March 16], WE WILL MAKE A DECISION AS TO WHICH WAY WE WANT TO GO!"

    • Vice President Pence, who heads the White House's Coronavirus Task Force, had signaled the change in tone earlier when he said the CDC will issue guidance today allowing people exposed to the coronavirus to return to work sooner by wearing a mask for a certain length of time."

It's not an accident that it arose in China - like SARS it is a consequence of their allowing "wet markets" and the trade in wild and exotic animals to continue. These phenomena provide breeding grounds for pathogens and opportunities for viruses to jump the species barrier which they wouldn't otherwise have.

With people dying in their hundreds I'm not going to lose much sleep over the leader of one economic and military superpower making verbal micro-agressions against another.

Nobody called HIV or Ebola the "Africa Virus", despite both arising there as the result of poaching and the trade in bush meat. Trump can't help being racist, being an Aryan supremacist is in his DNA. Hitler didn't invent German racism and antisemitism, he merely fanned the smoulder into flame. Ebola is named after the Ebola River in Africa.  What do you think West Nile Virus comes from?
