Not good news for many, but good to know. I guess that leaves only one viable candidate.

Bernie is a bit too far left for my taste, but I would have voted for him if he was the candidate.

  • I don't know that he matters. He was a shot at turning the Democratic party more progressive, but the American people didn't want it. I don't know what that means for the future of progressive "socialist" politics in the U.S.

I am fearful and shudder at the reasons why it doesn't matter.  I know why.  That is the problem.
We must have at least one person to detour some of the almost obvious outcome.
Please don't throw tomatoes at me.
Even I am surprised at my bleak outlook.  I'm not sure how to turn this one around into a Happy! Happy!

"I'm not sure how to turn this one around into a Happy! Happy!"

Is that ever really possible? Isn't that what utopia means?

    So True.
A better way to have said that would have been, "The worst of two evils."
Either way, your are right!  :):)
There is no Happy! Happy! when it comes to politics.  No matter who wins and how political you are, the affects and effects any ruler has on any person or situation will have a positive and negative outcome.
    You're awesome Stu!
Very literate and logical and awesome all at the same time.

  • I don't think he ever stood a chance at getting the nomination but I think both instances he's vied for it  that he's laid a little more foundation for where the Democratic party could likely end up going.

He was more of a representative for the party than a person?  Is that what you are saying?  If so, I agree.
In order to have a race, we must have at least two opponents.  Someone must step up to the plate or they win by default, correct?  Crap.  I need to go back to the rule books, 101.
    ;) :)

  • I do believe that is what I was trying to convey.  He's the current face of the Progressive movement.  He's laying the ground work for whoever the next face will be. Their hope being to continue to grow.

Unfortunately, his age and health, especially after his heart attack, preclude him being the face of any movement or anything else anymore IMO, and that's a big reason for his poorer showing this time compared to 2016. If the movement is real, it will need to come up with younger leadership.

NO NO NO..... I am so glad she is under 35.  Bernie would have announced she was going to be VP and would have sealed the deal.

So now we’re still down to two seventy-something, rich, Protestant white men to choose from. What’s new?

If the Dems are smart (which is a matter of interpretation) they can now begin to consolidate their party plan to dismantle the least re-election worthy president since Herbert Hoover. I don’t see a big problem with gathering oppo research here, as the inept and ridiculous incumbent spews self-destructive bile every day, and his political record reads like a man possessed of no tangible connection to ethics, accountability or competence. Shooting fish in a barrel.

Let’s see how smart they are.

Don, for how accurate and incredibly smart you are, you never cease to amaze me.
Your creative, creating a visual side with descriptions pops out while sharing your views on a topic.  It is incredible.
Both sides of your brain are equal.  How do you do that?
    Big Smiles.
Good point and I totally get your thoughts.
    :) :)

See?  Both my sides don't work in tandum.  I had to come back and edit.  You got yours first go around!

Oh you should see it in action, Merlin!

The typing skills lag so far behind the mental gymnastics, it is a wonder that so much of it makes print as conceived.

You flatter me. Thank you. May I not fail to articulate ideas at this level. The future is daunting...

Bernie is Jewish although I don't believe he is very religious.  Not something I would hold against him at all.

I get that. Now he’s out. (Trump and Biden were the two I was referring to.)

Bernie’s divergent POV from the rote party spin was refreshing, his manner was reminiscent of a favorite college professor. Would that he could’ve run 20 years ago. This post was edited by Don Barzini at April 9, 2020 10:09 AM MDT
