Becoming a father for the first time. Everything that I thought I already knew, all of my supposed “preparations”, paled in comparison to the reality of the event.

The path of life is uncertain, the cost high, and the rewards unexpected and fleeting, Grasshopper. ;)

This is one I’ve yet to take a position on because it is still a relatively emerging field. Deep nerd stuff. Fascinating, though.

I used to think technology (the Internet in particular) would be nothing short of beneficial to humanity.  I have now come to realize that some of the results are more negative than positive, i.e., people are less civil when they don't have to look each other in the eye; the advent of "fake news" and the seeming inability to differentiate between what's real and what isn't; the ability to hack into accounts and steal personal information that can be used later to disadvantage others.  Those are just the ones off the top of my head.  Of course, there are positives as well.

It seems to me there are never a shortage of reasons to be disappointed in our kind.

    of seeing, feeling, and understanding
of that oneness which is beyond the Ego.

Does not Buddhism refer to this state as Enlightenment? A worthy goal.
