Can you name a singer from the 60s that you think would have won on 'American Idol' if it had aired in that decade?

Unlike Elvis, Orbison got by on pure talent - he lacked Elvis's self-belief and didn't have the Establishment behind him. Don't get me wrong, Elvis was a fine singer but he came along at a time when the big money was looking for a white man who sounded like a black one. He rode the wave.
Roy was in the shadow of the King but his voice was bigger and a lot cleaner. His life was a soap opera - should have changed his name to Job. How could one man suffer such tragedy and not be broken by it? This post was edited by Slartibartfast at May 30, 2020 12:50 PM MDT

I'm lost...
Is this a hint as to a person who had these very unfortunate experiences and could sing in the 60s??
I can't think of an idol or singer that had these terrible events happen to them...
