Important poll: how did you and your friends pick who was “it” for tag when you were a kid?

A) ink a binka bottle of ink..something something something something.  

B) My mother and your mother were hanging up the clothes. My mother punched your mother right in the nose. What colour was the blood?

    Speaking of getting old, we didn't say tiger. The original rhyme used a racial slur and the first time I came home and recited it, my mother just calmly said use 'catch a baby by the toe'. I had no idea why. Some of the kids used the original rhyme, but since I had never heard that word outside of the rhyme and it was never explained to me, I let it go and used my version. Later, the tiger version became common.

    We also used one potato, two potato but I actually can't remember how the rest of it goes.

    Based on both these things, you can tell that I am really old.

    I remember one potato two potato But it wasn’t for picking for tag, it was more a game, I think. What was was the racial slur? or I guess you can’t post it?

      Mostly B, but it did vary all the time. We had zillions of those rhymes from which to choose.

    haha smart :) we would spend all recess with our dukes up doing these rhymes. Barely ever actually got to the tag game. Sometimes on lunch recess though, cos that was a long one. This post was edited by Jaimie at June 6, 2020 8:34 AM MDT

    Sometimes, we used E-triple M as Jane mentioned.

    And our version of B was different:
    My mother and your mother were hanging out the clothes, and my mother gave your mother a punch in the nose. My mother said to your mother, "Do you want any more?" And your mother said, "No, 'cause my nose is too sore."

    Of course, it didn't occur to us as kids that most adults don't go around gratuitously punching other adults in the nose!

    I always picked purple blood. I think I picked that because I thought was a really hard word to spell when I was young and it would trip up the person doing the rhyme thing. I was always annoyed the kids who picked red , too boring.

    It was usually eenie meenie mynie mo (never seen it in writing before so don't know if that's the expected spelling).

    (B) I only came across that one, or a variant on that general theme, as an adult. It was just a few years back when I overheard some kids on a campsite picking "it". Except it went: "There was a monkey / lived in the country / he fell down a dark hole / split his arsehole / what colour was his blood."
