Why isn't the site's Search function working?

I try to search for a question involving a Yugo (the car), so I searched "Yugo." No results found.

Turns out, I asked a question about Yugo cars a long time ago: https://answermug.com/forums/topic/57223/bringing-average-maintenance-and-driving-style-into-account-how

W
hat's wrong with the search function? Why won't it pop up the relevant result(s)? (Go ahead, search "Yugo" on the site's search feature yourself. You'll be disappointed.)

  • There is a topic for "Science & Technology" and a topic for "Science and Technology".  Under "All" topics your post did not come up in search as you said but when I picked the topic "Science and Technology" your post did show up.  I guess you picked the wrong topic of the two to post under.

I believe I searched "Yugo" under "everything."

You repeated “Science and Technology”; was that intentional?

  • Yes. If you click on the list of topics under search it's listed there twice.

"And" or "&" is the difference.  The categories with "&" are in the "General" section and were old questions and answers that were recovered from before the update to the site. And uploaded later to the site.

The main section was created during the update is Discussions: Questions: Category Name

Old recovered categories are Discussions: General: Category Name

It has never worked for me. It is likely nobody here has ever asked about Yugos.

    It does not work.

As I understand when it did work the search would pull up posts that were from private groups that you were supposed to be a member of to see the content.  So it was dismantled to protect user privacy.

It is possible to use Google to search a specific website.

I suggest going to the area you want to search and using the dedicated search for that area. For example, the "Questions" section (when you click on questions in the main menu) has a search bar on the right.

It could be that what you're looking for does not appear on the site. However, we did have an issue a while back with the universal search displaying things in private groups- things that should not be searchable. The dev "fixed" it and it hasn't been right since. It's a pain, but because there's a workaround, it's low on the list of things to fix. Sorry.
