    There is no such thing as a "French" fry. They were invented in Belgium but embraced wholeheartedly by the British. The French hardly ever eat them.

    They are not called French fries because they are from France.  They are french fries because of the way the potato is cut.
    French cut=  sliced lengthwise into long thin strips.
