Have you ever smashed your hand with a hammer and if so, what was the result?

    I don’t know if I could actually bring myself to purposely hurt myself. So I just ask this question instead of finding out the hard way.

    Never did that. 

    My finger did get smashed in a machine at work. A factory printing machine for hoses.  I put my finger where the hose was supposed to go.  Broke the tip. My nail grows slightly crooked now.   It hurt so much that it did not hurt.

    I’ve never done it either, my closet would be slamming my thumb and fingers in a car door. I’ve done that more than once lol.

    Do you have a hammer? You  could go try for scientific reasons and see what happens so you can give a better answer, please.

    A hammer would have been preferable to what did happen. A pressure can of canola oil spray exploded in my hand. Compound fracture of the thumb which required plastic surgery, serious burns to the hand and forearm, muscles in the heel of the hand pulped to jelly ...
    It's still not right, eight months later. I've been told I'll probably never get the full range of movement back, the damage to the joint is permanent (it broke backwards in the explosion). The hand and thumb are still tender to the touch, too.

    Got too hot. Summer in Australia, the can was left in the sun. I was carrying it into the shade when it blew up.

    "Keep in a cool place out of direct sunlight" was clearly printed on the can, so I couldn't sue anybody.

    Not in the same way that I've heard America is - but if the can had been defective, I'd have complained to the manufacturer at the very least. It wasn't, or at least not obviously so. Safety instructions on the label are not ambiguous, it was at least partly my own fault (not entirely, I wasn't the one who left it there).

    It is, and many times, rightly so (thinking of pharmaceutical companies in particular right now). 

    Personal responsibility does seem to get lost at times. Label instructions are important.

    I was told at the hospital that if I'd just left the can sitting there until nightfall and let it cool, it would almost certainly have been okay. Disturbing the too-hot contents was enough to touch off the explosion.

    I've heard that these are making a comeback. Trigger sprays and atomisers are okay too, if the contents aren't under pressure it's fine.

    I have never done that because when I use a hammer I choke up on the hammer handle (hold the hammer more towards the middle). You have more controll of the hammer that way - not as much power but better then smashing your hand. Cheers and happy weekend!
