When you need to be in deep thought, what physical position do you usually assume; resting your chin in your hand; scratching your head..?

Lying on your back staring up at the ceiling or the sky.....?

I've found that I turn my head towards a window, without really looking out it. Used to be to the left; now, in a new home, to the right.

That don't really seem like a very deep thought reply.

That’s probably just a matter of perception. The response itself is the final product of thought-process that created it, but that doesn’t automatically mean lack of depth. I very well could have considered it quite extensively and then merely printed a one-word answer.

What makes you think I am capable of deep thought? You flatter me! No, seriously, I think I just sit and sigh, scratch my head and hope for inspiration..

I just stare off into space, whatever I'm looking at the time. I just sort of freeze on the spot.  My cat does not understand and comes up to me and meows.

    You're welcome. :)
Sometimes those deep-thoughts moments happen on the spot for me, too.

I'd get more thinking done if this cat wasn't so sensitive.  He looks after the other cats and me. Just yesterday I was leaning my elbow on the table with my hand on my forehead, looking down at the table in deep thought about my daughter, should I call her or not.  The cat jumped in the chair next to me and stuck his face under mine and began meowing. I guess he thought something was wrong, I must have been putting out those concerned vibes. My attention was drawn to him and I never decided whether to call or write...or not do either.
I may be going on wishful thinking and can't sort out the truth from fiction.  :  (

If I'm purposely "going for" a mindfulness moment, or trying to relax/tone down anxiety, two yoga poses do well for me.

    Happy Baby pose

    Relaxation pose

Both are incredibly centering for me.

If I tried that top pose, my wife would have to call 911.

    Ha!

By all means, then don't be a Happy Baby!  :)

The best part for me in that Happy Baby pose is how it makes my back, especially lower back, feel. A gentle soothing, simple gravity-type of quiet pressure on my back.
And breathing in this position is very relaxing for me.
And maybe I don't do it completely correctly, but sometimes I like to have my legs and arms out a bit "wider" than what this picture's angle seems to show. But maybe I am doing it the right way, like this guy is doing -- it's just that at this image's angle, he looks more "narrow" somehow.

I usally look straight ahead and stroke my chin hair with my thumb and pointer finger. Today I heard on the news about the mercury being pored down the public toilets at Stanley Park thought it was horrible. Cheers!

Hunched forward argumentatively, in case Majikthise and Vroomfondel come in. Deep Thought itself is annoying, taking seven and a half million years just to come up with the answer "42".
