    No one I talk to knows anything about anything: where the vaccine is, how to get yours or when it might be available.   My doctor doesn't know and apparently the medical board doesn't either as they have not responded to my email.

    At last count it was .001%    .... wait, hold on ...  I understand they just gave Bill the vaccine.  So that makes it .002%  ... .... wait... what? ... ...  Really?...  oh...  um... nevermind.  ... Bill's shot was for syphilis ... It's still .001%.

    Number when the subject is plural: people, trees, dogs, houses, etc. Amount when the subject is singular: grass, rain, salt, sugàr, etc.

      Thanks. Now that brings up why I thought “number” was incorrect. Technically, a percentage is a number, so in theory, I thought I would be asking, “Either by number or by number, . . . ”

    Percentage represents a portion of the whole number/amount of something or things. Number or amount is the absolute count.
