Catfishing, on the other hand, is the act of creating a fake online persona for the purpose of luring people into friendships or relationships.

cat fishing catfishing. It's one word - I have no idea why people increasingly have trouble understanding which expressions are properly spelled as one word, not two, and it has nothing to do with cats, fish, or catfish.
I've wondered about the origin of the term. My guess would be that catfish are known for being bottom feeders or lurking in muddy waters?
I first learned of the pop culture definition when a Notre Dame football player was catfished and it became a national story. Seems like 2012 or 2013 - that's when I heard the story, anyway.
I've watched the TV show Catfish. Some heartbreaking stories and screwed up people.
That's all I seem to catch in our river. Nice two pounders, though. Another fisherman was paying five dollars each for them, but I wouldn't take money.
Howdy boys I'm new here because I just broke up with my boyfriend. I like to travel and meet new people but I can't afford it right now because I was laid off from my massage job. Cheers!
