Would you please post a song that you love that you think will surprise your fellow Muggers?

But you really have to love the song, for real. And try to surprise us!

You've mentioned that you haven't listened to popular music since the 80's-90's so if you'd posted anything from the past 25 years I would have been very surprised. Hahaha!  We've talked about Naughty by Nature before. I always cite that as one of the few rap songs I genuinely like, and how ironic it is because I'm so anti-infidelity.

I love the story about 'True'! Funny.

I also love the Wham! story. Your confidence is admirable! I think I was over 30 before I stopped worrying about what people who didn't know me well would think of some of my musical interests.

This one might be surprising to peeps here, unless I've shared it here before, which I may have.

Particularly in contrast to this song that I also love. Yes, that's a young Bobby Brown. Yes, we taped episodes of Friday Night Videos and learned the dance moves. :)

And this one, too. Probably a shocker to Muggers who know me.

"In 1814 I took a little trip...." That song always makes me smile.
I like all those songs, except "I Can't Make You Love Me". I don't know why, but I've never liked it.

I haven't listened to "On the Dark Side" for a long time. I like it a lot.

I prefer this Bonnie Tyler song. I don't think it was as popular/overplayed and maybe was more country? I have a distinct memory of hearing it on some variety show (Hee Haw, maybe? My dad watched that). Anyway, I like this best of hers that I've heard.

Glad you like the question! Jaimie asked me to post a question and this popped in my head. It's been fun!

Just to clarify, throughout the 1990s, I listened to increasingly less new music as time went by because I just didn’t like what I was hearing, it had less and less appeal to me as it began to evolve. By the 2000s, I was pretty much done altogether. As such, it wasn’t a complete shutdown when the 1980s ended, which is why there are a few scattered tunes after that decade  that I like.

NOTE: the songs below are a few of my favorites from the 1990s, but they do not necessarily fall into your question’s criteria of ones that might surprise other members about me.

    “BREATHE AGAIN” by Toni Braxton.
“ALL THAT SHE WANTS” by Ace Of Base.
“THE SIGN” by Ace Of Base.

“BECAUSE THE NIGHT” by 10,000 Maniacs.
    “MR. VAIN” by Culture Beat.
    “WHAT IS LOVE” by Haddaway.
“NOW AND FOREVER” by Richard Marx.

Got it. I've updated your file with the clarification and reprimanded my brain for the muddling of memories.

If you want, I can recommend some from the late 90's forward that I think you'll like. They'll probably mostly be ones I like because those are the ones I remember. But I'll make note of the Ace of Base and Richard Marx, and especially "What is Love"!! That would have been more of a surprise than Wham! That song just makes me think of SNL! So funny!

I have really been enjoying the 70s Music Choice cable channel lately. I'm not nearly as familiar with it as I am the 80s through 2010 or so. Even now, I hear new music a lot, but it's mostly adult rock/alternative/singer-songwritery stuff. I don't listen to any mainstream pop stations usually. I don't like a lot of what is contemporary pop now. So, the 70s for me is hearing some things I have no memory of and other that are very nostalgic.

“I don't like a lot of what is contemporary pop now.”

      I have the same sentiment.

We have a great regional radio station that I've listened to for many of the years of my life. It's a good mix of today's adult alternative, pop alternative, adult contemporary along with classics from the 70s on.

That’s the exact kind of station I love. The local ones here, unfortunately, have about 150 songs in their loops, so it gets monotonous after a very short time. For example, they’ll play “Hotel California”, “Don’t Stop Believin’” and “Billie Jean” at least three times each in a twenty-four hour period every single day. Meanwhile, there are thousands of other great songs that were released since January 1, 1960 and beyond that don’t ever get played.

We also have a pretty new classic rock station here and an oldies that plays only 50s -60s-70s-80s. It's sort of the radio jackpot for me.

Sorry your luck isn't so good with that. I didn't mean to gloat.

I don’t see it as gloating at all. Wait, you won’t believe what just occurred to me! Since you and I share such similar music tastes, and you have much better selections and variety where you live, I should just move in with you so that we can enjoy it together! I don’t have a preference as to which side of our bed I sleep in, so that won’t be a problem either!

Did you dance to this one, Randy?

    This is surprising!

My entire life, I’ve never been a dancer. I never learned how, nor did it come to me naturally. You would not believe how much I have always regretted that, along with my inability to sing.

Yes, I remember you saying that. But have you never sung and danced when no one is watching?
