When did you learn that Santa Claus does not exist?

I was around age 6 when I heard classmates saying that Santa Claus does not exist.

W-what do you mean doesn't exist?  Of course he does. I've SEEN him!  Ringing a bell in front of McDonald's, , sitting on a chair in the hardware store asking people what they want for christmas, walking up and down main street handing out miniature candy canes...which for some reason  seem to get smaller each year.   Hmmm... maybe he's hard up for money.  I mean he has been starting these jobs earlier and earlier.  He started in late August last year.

I have no recollection of believing he was real.

My parents where never religious, so at my house it was just another day.  I learned about it through other kids at school.  I remember thinking that is the most outrageous lie I ever heard.  I still can't believe that adults lie like that to kids.  It is OUTRAGEOUS.

Are you unable to see the difference between a falsehood and a fairy tale? Please don't deprive your own kids like that (if you have any).

I think I was seven. I was snooping, and found where the presents were stashed. I kept mum for the sake of my younger siblings.
