Yes - but they're not going to help you get out of that ticket.

  • Before we moved, I knew lots of them.  My husband and I participated in our city's Citizens' Police Academy.  It was an 8 week course that gave us a lot of insight into law enforcement from the cop's perspective.  We did ride-alongs, listened to lectures from various officers and even went to their rifle range to shoot!  My picture was on the front page of the newspaper standing next to a Lt. shooting his gun!  :)  I loved all of it.

Sheriff, or sheriff’s deputy. I only ask because many people refer to the officers of a sheriff’s department as sheriffs when in fact they are deputies, there is only one person who is the actual sheriff

Just a deputy, not the elected sheriff.

Not only do I know many men and women in that profession, I am one of them myself, now retired.

When did you retire from grammar policing, and why didn't you tell me? Grrrrr.

Lol, I’m GPF for life, homie! Blood in, blood out! I can’t even imagine not being a grammar enforcement officer, so you don’t have to worry about me ever disappearing. Even this self-imposed moratorium shall pass and I’ll be back on the beat. Too many scofflaws are out there endangering the language for me to turn in my badge and citation book permanently. Grrrrrrr.

Just one when I was a kid growing up. He was a patrolman and used to show up every late Saturday night to play poker with my dad and his friends. I ran into him at a Home Depot where I used to work. He was a lieutenant at the time, but this was around 1995, and I haven't seen him since.

As Area Coordinator for the local Neighbourhood Watch, I've known several. One of my best friends' father was the local Sergeant when I was a teen, as was my Dad's mate Mark (who had to quit the force after being seriously injured in a riot).
My father-in-law would have been a cop but for a foot deformity (hammer toes) - they didn't make boots to fit. Quite a lot of my friends and my wife's friends mistook him for one - he walked the walk, talked the talk (especially over CB radio) and had the attitude.

I didn’t miss it, how could I have if I pointed out to you that it’s there?

Have you forgotten that I’m on sabbatical due to the moratorium and therefore I cannot carry out any enforcement measures? Some partner. Grrrrrrr.

I once had a neighbour who was a policewoman. She insisted on checking my ID when I was on a
house-to-house charity collection, even though she knew perfectly well who I was.
