You began working for a company and find out you are the only 'straight' person employed there. Would you come out or stay ' in the closet'?

I think I would try to just pretend..

I would think the same thing I do when it comes to the opposite scenario.
Why is it anybody else's business what is done in private between consenting adults?

A person's sexual preferences are no one's business but their own.  I don't run around telling everyone I'm heterosexual and I don't know why anyone who isn't feels the need to shout it from the rooftops.

I get your point, yes. And I agree with you in principle, especially reading it from you, that there is no need to shout orientation from rooftops.
But, unfortunately not all heterosexuals think like you do. Instead, many heterosexuals have taken it upon themselves to make sure to shout at non-heterosexuals - - "You are wrong! You are nature's mistake! You are a perversion of nature! You can go to hell! You are a major reason for the world going wrong!"

After hearing such things shouted at one's self from so many others for a bulk of one's life, one might want to at least whisper back, "I am simply a human being."

I am truly sorry that has happened to you and others.  I don't know why anyone cares who you sleep with or who you love or why.  It doesn't affect anyone else's life if their lifestyles are different.  I don't believe homosexuality is a choice - you are born that way, the same as others are born heterosexual.  Yes, they are human beings, the same as everyone else.

Why should there be a problem?  I'm not ashamed of my heterosexuality any more than they are of their homosexuality.  I've worked with many people who were not, as you put it, "straight". They didn't go around flaunting their sexual orientation, they just did their job.

What would it have to do with the job itself or with my job performance? I am now retired, but I can’t imagine myself in any job or profession wherein my heterosexuality would or might threaten co-workers. Does such a job or profession even exist?

Unless being other-than-hetero is a condition of employment or is clearly listed as part of the KSA.

I don't see it as anybody else's business but mine. I can't se how it would matter, unless I was working in gay porn.

I think it would be kind of fun for me pretending to be gay for a while but  then I think the guys would sooner  or later  catch on anyway. This post was edited by Kittigate at October 16, 2021 6:49 PM MDT
