I find the Lume deodorant commercials offensive.

How do they manage to squeeze so many different kinds of molecules of stuff into one little container? I try to read labels sometimes if the print is large enough to read without needing a microscope but I would not be inclined to read all that stuff even if I was a chemist that could make any meaning out of all those ingredients.

Why would you need tapioca or caffeine in a deodorant?  With all the different alcohols in this, the reason you wouldn't smell anyone's body odor is because you'd be pickled yourself.

Well maybe the tapioca acts as a catalyst for the phenylpropanol to homogenate with the tetrasodium glutamate and the glyceral stearate a catalyst helps mix the dimethicol and caffeine to produce the best suitable viscosity... or something. If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with BS.

The main thing they advertise is 'no zinc or baking soda'. Who cares?

I would think those two ingredients are the least problematic.

Yeah...but marketers give zinc oxide a bad rap. And what's up with baking soda?

It's a hobby. I have a special high-powered pair of reading glasses in my kitchen that I call my 'label readers'.

(Sigh)...yes. But I know what the ingredients are. Once a chemist, always a chemist.

I'm not but sometimes I pretend that I am. Sometime I will stand in the middle of a isle pretending to be reading the ingredients and when someone walks by  I will say - excuse me could you tell me what this word is then I will point to a word like Phenylpropanol' If they tell me what the word is I will say - well does Phenylpropanol have sodium in it - I'm supposed to be watching my sodium intake. I usally ask them 3 or 4 questions before I thank them for their help. It always surprizes me how helpful people will be. Cheers!

Only when I forget to bring a book or my "smart device" into the bathroom, and I'm reduced to reading the labels on the shampoo bottles. WTF is "sodium laureth sulfate" and is there a cure?

That is the soap in the shampoo that leaves the film that gives you the "squeaky clean."

I do not use any deodorant or antiperspirant; I use alcohol under my arms. I never have body odor.   I recommend it every time I have a chance.
