That’s pretty neat! My home state changed its shape too.

    More like this

    Or this

Nobody down here knows all fifty states. Do you know all six of ours?

I don’t, not off the top of my head. I'll try naming as many as I can without looking them up anywhere: Queensland, New South Wales, . . . (cue the sound of crickets).

Wow, I should have remembered Western Australia; it’s the only one I’ve been to, twice in fact. And everyone knows Tasmania, but I was thinking it wasn’t the name of one of the states.  Overall, I should have done better than just two. Grrrrrrr.

Most Americans don't know all fifty states.

In elementary school, I memorized not only all 50 American states, I also memorized their capitol capital cities. Additionally, I believe it was my second grade teacher who had a set of flash cards with just the shapes or the silhouettes of the fifty states, they were not used for any particular lesson plan or with any text book, they were just available to students just like certain books or puzzles were. I used them to learn all 50 states just by recognizing their shapes.

My son learned them from a puzzle.
Also, capital is the word for the city; capitol is the word for the legislative building.

Wow. I don't remember what grade I was in but I also memorized all of the states and their capitals. I did it just because I liked the challenge. Don't quiz me now, most of it has all slipped away. I hadn't thought of memorizing the shape of the states.

What could possibly go wrong with state flash cards?  I know!

It’s time for the state flash card quiz!  Which state is this?

    Wyoming.

    *looks at back of card*

    No, sorry, it’s Colorado.

How the hell can you distinguish Wyoming from Colorado by silhouette?

More than one US president has made reference to the 54 states or the 57 states.
