    It's not lost until you sell it. The value of my stock portfolio is down about 15%.

    The most recent statement I got yesterday from what I consider my "play stock account" ending March 31 is definitely down.  That's the account not handled by my financial advisor where I buy whatever looks good to me on my own.

    You don't lose until you sell.   However, it is troubling to everyone I presume.

    It's most troubling to anyone near retirement age because they won't have enough time for the markets to recover and restore the value of their investments.  Younger folks who have 10+ years to go might wind up whole.

    Thankfully my Super fund doesn't own any US stock. The Australian market has taken a hit but not as severely as the Dow.

    Nope.  
    I will log in on my son's account soon to check his status.  But as others have said, it is not a loss until you sell it at a loss.
