  • The Screwtape Letters by C.S.Lewis.

    It's a series of letters from Screwtape, a senior official in the Temptation Department in Hell, to his nephew Wormwood, a junior tempter on Earth, telling him how to tempt a mother and son who live together. If you filter out the religion and read it as a book on inter-personal relationships, it's very useful. Read it about 1960. Never forgot it.

    'Material World, A Global Family Portrait' is a photo journal depicting all the possessions  of a statistically average family in a number of different countries. I found it so fascinating to see the differences. I wish there were an updated version - it was published about 20 years ago. Here's a link to some of the pictures.
