If a person always has a net gain from gambling, is that still a gambling addiction?

  • An addiction is still an addiction regardless of whether money is lost or not.

  • Sounds more like a gambling addition.

Like Corey stated, it's still an addiction IF the person can't stop gambling on their own.

    Hello f:

I'm not a fan of attributing the word "addiction" to behavior.  It LESSENS the pain of REAL addiction, and gives the person an EXCUSE for bad behavior..  There's NO sex addiction... There's NO gambling addiction..  There's NO porn addiction.  There's ONLY drug addiction.

Therefore, if gambling is PROFITABLE, it's a BUSINESS, not an addiction..

There are other addictions than drugs. Neglecting them won't make them any less real. Your choice.

    Hello SH:

I dunno where you got that I think one should NEGLECT their bad behavior.  What I'm saying is, you can't FIX bad behavior IF you don't RECOGNIZE it as such..  Truly, if it IS behavior, and one has free will, one can STOP that behavior NOW, TODAY, THIS INSTANT, and it can be done all by ones self, with NO withdrawal..

An addiction CANNOT be stopped in the same manner.

Any addiction starts with bad behavior. You claiming it does not exist is simply not true. Simple as that. You will find plenty of material on this subject, if you care to read more about it. Besides, you forgot to add smoking into your little dividing of sorts of addictions. I will leave it to you how to look on this. I am aware we never will get to any agreement on this subject.

    Hello again, SH:

Yes, addictions DO start out with bad behavior..  But, at SOME point in time, IF you're messing around with an addictive SUBSTANCE, it will grab onto you..  Gambling doesn't DO that..  Sex doesn't DO that.  Porn doesn't DO that. None of these so called addictions DO that..  By the way, I did say DRUG addiction above, and nicotine is a drug.  I also didn't mention meth..  Are you gonna yell at me for that too??

You're right..  We're NOT gonna agree.

Excuse me, I've never yelled at you. In fact, it's only you who had stuff banned/moderated inside any of our discussions previously. Don't imply stuff that isn't happening. As far as defining how a bad behavior gets an addiction, we do agree.
