Why on earth would you give a lavish gift even if there's no occasion that calls for celebration?

My husband and I had come to a point that we did not buy each other gifts for holidays or special occasions.  We celebrated those days in other ways.  We gave gifts when we happened across something that was just perfect, or something we'd been eyeing that went on sale...or just because we felt moved to do so.  Our holidays actually became more special to us, because we focused on the reason for the day and each other.  And ordinary days became special...maybe a Tuesday in August or a Monday in March, whenever.  :)

Thanks!  It worked great for us.  It takes the commercialization/consumerism out of the equation, and the pressure off, and really allows you to focus on the meaning of the day, as well as each other.  And the ordinary days that became "special" days were a bonus.  :) This post was edited by Bozette at June 21, 2017 6:28 PM MDT

  • I buy gifts for a special lady here and there just because she's always so nice and caring for me and other people. She deserves some recognition for all the good she does and because she lives so far away? I think it's the least I can do when other selfish people just don't care. Just one of my ways of saying: Thank you for all that you do! Doesn't need to be ny special occasion at all. I just do it because she deserves it!
