Tell them to send back those SS checks and cancel their Medicare.
That always shuts them up. This post was edited by Lulu'sMom at June 22, 2017 10:12 AM MDT

Good idea. If they think it is so great they should be rushing to sign up for it.

I think it should be a requirement!

We pay enormous taxes for them to have benefits none of us will ever enjoy ourselves.  No wonder they are so out of touch.

I think we should cut their salary in half and cut off their bonuses and make them pay higher taxes.
Let's see what happens after that.

Social Security and Medicare are not entitlements.  We pay into those with our tax money.  The entitlements are welfare and food stamps.  I'm not saying we should get rid of them for those we are truly in need, but when someone is perfectly capable of working and gets welfare and food stamps, something is wrong with that picture.

  • Um...Yes.  Social Security is indeed an entitlement.  The money being drawn from SS is NOT what you paid into it during your lifetime. You paid for people who were collecting at that time. Therefore, if you are collecting SS NOW, you are being subsidized by the people who are paying FICA today.

This is NOT an investment. It is PURE socialism and it is a great example of how socialism DOES work through programs such as this.

I agree with the you about Food stamps but many are unable to put food on their tables despite working because of the the substandard wages being paid out by businesses.  They also can't afford to buy quality food because of the high cost of child care. The wealthy in this country are NOT paying their share. There is a cap on FICA taxes. They are taking advantage of loop holes and we are being hog swaggled into this entire narrative that taxes are bad, that the Estate tax is BAD (Especially since the majority of Americans will NEVER pay an estate tax).

The Poor are not the problem in the US. The Wealthy and the Corporations are but for some ungodly reason, we keep letting them run the show. Trump was put into office because stupid F*cking people think that he is a GREAT businessman (WHICH HE IS HISTORICALLY PROVEN NOT TO BE) and that the US should be run like a business. NO NO NO. It is NOT a business. It is a government.  Business models are typically a hierarchical tyranny (AKA Fascism)

Again...the poor are NOT the problem.
The rich are and they are raping us.
They are stealing from society and using us as their private servants.
We need a "Reset" button on wealth in this country. This post was edited by Benedict Arnold at June 22, 2017 10:23 AM MDT

People would be shocked to learn who needs the most help.  There are millions of hard working people that cannot make enough to offset the cost of groceries, housing, and medical care.  I have seen this first hand.  The welfare cheats are not the norm since the application process is harder than filling out a complicated tax form.

I agree with you on the food stamp issue, but I did say that those who truly need it should have it.  I agree that the wealthy are not paying their share.

So true.  I think all those that want to see entitlements go away should sign up to be excluded should they ever need them. Think of all the money that would save us.

Oh, and I say all those politicians that want to screw with medical benefits will also need to have the same lack of care they want to put on their constituents.

The reason politicians are so cavalier about those entitlements is because they will never need them.  When have you seen a poor politician?

Never!  Makes me spitting mad that they won't accept what they want to pass on to others.  They all need to be run out of office.

THANK YOU.  For the SS and Medicare definition at least.  Entitlements is a GOP term.
However, welfare and food stamps are not entitlements either.  Of course the system is flawed, but all that money we are grousing about is negligble.  IT is what the GOP focuses on to hypnotize you into thinking we need less aid for the needy.    There will always be welfare cheats.  There will always be RICH people embezzling money that could be used to help the needy.

I think the welfare cheats get much more sympathy than pigs who do work and are never satisfied as if they are entitled to get more money than everyone else and at everyone else's expense.

Most people that have gazillions did not earn it any more than some poor schlep sitting for hours in an office to receive his paltry monthly stipend.

I agree up to a point, but what needs to happen is that welfare should not pay a person to sit home if they are capable of working.  What we need to do is subsidize people.  We should say, you go out and get a job.  If you need $100 a week to live and can only earn $75, we will subsidize the other $25.  With welfare, if you work at all, you become unqualified.  So, some folks don't work because the welfare payment is larger than what they can earn.

There are many working poor that do need some help with food stamps.  The allowance is very small.  Most people that work a full time, minimum wage job cannot even afford the basics.  :(

When we had our grandson we received food stamps.  We paid OVER 75% of our SSI and SS for rent (over $1000) plus bills, clothing and miscellaneous.  We received $249 in stamps.  There were times I had to borrow from daughter to pay for my meds for epilepsy, although my meds were greatly reduced because of medicare and medicaid.  I didn't even have $5 to pay for my meds!!
NOW, we can afford everything we need because we moved. But we had to wait over 3 years to get into a place that allows us to not worry.  Finally!
I worked although I am disabled.  I've not taken advantage of any services that I could have.  I'm not asking for pity. I'm just tired of hearing how a certain class of people being blamed for the state of the economy.  This post was edited by SA (SuperA) at June 22, 2017 11:00 AM MDT

It's pathetic that a family like yours should even be in question.  I know your character and I know how many years you worked while being disabled!  You never wanted a "hand out".  My son is also disabled.  Took three years to finally get him that much, but it will only be a stipend for him.  He will need help the rest of his life, whether it comes from us, along with supplementation.  His goal is to get well enough to work at least part time.  He don't want to be a burden.  Most disabled people don't!

I sure wish people would STFU about food stamps.  Even elderly people need them and the amount allowed is so small.  No one is buying lobster with them unless they want to starve the rest of the month.

The misinformation out there is sickening.

When I was on food stamps it went to potatoes, rice, beans, macaroni, hamburger and lots of pasta...lol  The good thing about living in an elderly/disabled place like here is that many people have found out hubby cooks Mexican food, so we get a lot of beans, tortillas, cheese and chile from about 5 neighbors. Hubby will make food for almost anybody here.  Good thing he's a good cook!! :) This post was edited by SA (SuperA) at June 22, 2017 11:27 AM MDT

I know all about food stamps since my 80+ year old mother needed them and I helped her grocery shop.  She got $16 a month.  She worked until she was 70 years old doing manual labor (house cleaning).  After that, she was a volunteer until she went blind and couldn't drive anymore.  She never wanted anything from anybody.  That was a source of her pride and old fashion work ethic.

I wish to God that all those people that want to cut others off would learn a little more about those in need.  The majority are the elderly, disabled, and working poor.

I have a feeling that those that do the loudest complaining about those needing meager help could not live as tightly as most of them do.  Most are NOT cheats and the system has made it very difficult for those with genuine need to get help at all.

Some people think that those on food stamps eat the most expensive food.  Hubby would go shopping and get things on sale, uses coupons in order to get more food cheap.  YES, we buy a few steaks, but make at least 3 dinners with it. Some who complain the loudest could learn a few things from me. lol
