  • It is a way of saying, "I like you."

You are correct as far as I have read.  One site said that is what they do when they are telling you they OWN you.

    I was totally owned yesterday.

  • It's sheer acceptance of you as an acceptable mate .. wait.

They like you and are in total bliss to be in your company. Yeah, that's it.

They are sharing their scent and kinda saying you are their territory.

JakobA is correct. They have scent glands on their head and they are rubbing their scent on you.

Hi JaneS~ I have the funniest visual in my head.  You and the cat, staring each other down.  Who is going to flinch first?  I don't know but then you both charge.  BAM!  I think the cat one the first round.  It was a big orange tabby cat, mind you!! ;) (domestic)

They are rubbing their scent on you. Marking their territory so to speak.

I guess I'll take the other answers as the reasons. All I know is the cat who lives with me seems to enjoy her head-butting time with me. And I enjoy it. Even if she is sliming her scent all over me, according to most. And if she's really in to it, she drools delicately. She's a charmer!
    :)

And I wouldn't wish for a different cat - - she is much more centered than I am. She's a good role model for me!
