No, but my wife is. Her so-called friends and her daughter are constantly asking for things and she caves all the time.

Element, does she complain to you about it, or is she just one of those people who are givers and it upset you to see her taken advantage of?

A little of the former and a lot of the latter.

It does suck to see someone we love getting taken advantage of.

  • Sometimes with certain people in my life I can be too nice , or give too many chances. But on other hand sometimes I'm too quick to snap at people and lose my temper. So I'd say I'm half nice , half beaachy:)

It depends on who's looking at me. lol
My general philosophy is to help where I can, and I'm genuinely happy doing it. I also try to see why someone might have behaved a certain way and take that into consideration. I'm far more likely to turn the other cheek than I am to engage in a heated argument with someone or fire back. So, that naturally winds up causing issues because some people do take advantage of that. I'll give them leeway because they're dealing with something or processing something, and then they expect me to keep bending over backwards or biting my tongue. If they don't heed my gentle warnings, the claws come out. I pretty much just cut them out of my life entirely. They're dead to me. And, they're always shocked because I've always been "so nice." So, you'll find people who think I'm the kindest, gentlest soul on earth, and you'll find people who think I'm a huge b. It does take a lot to push me to the point where I cut someone off, but when I do, it ain't pretty.

Yes, I'm way too nice, way too shy, never speak my mind, a real doormat.

I know.  Ugh. I just hate it when I see you let people walk all over you.

I've been run over a few times.  Not because I'm so nice, but because they can and do for personal gain.  I've had millions stolen or diverted away from me by greedy relatives.  Some who were my court appointed guardians.  I also had a boss who forced me out of a job because another agency made false promises to him about what they would do for him if he got rid of me.

I know there have been times in my personal life where I let things go that maybe I should not have.  Sometimes it's just the best way to stop a drama was playing out about something that probably is not even important to me.  But no, I don't let people walk all over me.  In my professional life I rarely let anything just roll off because every word matters in the kind of work I do (even though I try to do very little).

Always Harry always...nowadays i am growing more stern and I hope I can become strong enough not to allow others to take advantage of me, my Papa was a gentle soul, I'm like him, my Mom is a Leo....my Hubby a Sagittarius, he taught me how to deal with people, I'm learning, still a novice dear;))

You keep working on it Veena.  It's not easy, especially when it comes to friends.  For me, it depends upon what's going on in my life.  Lately, I think I'm made of stone. ;-)

  • I do have some tendency to be a doormat. I've gotten better at not letting people walk over me, but I've always been the type who tries to please everyone and I often have the problem of not speaking up when something is bothering me.

Like Veena, you need to keep working at it Nevan.  It's one of those issues in which, eventually, you will hit a breaking point.

I think I might be too nice because I get the feeling being nice just is kind of frowned on while being, umm, the opposite of a nice person is what's popular. This post was edited by Livvie at September 26, 2017 6:02 AM MDT
