I would not touch it because a general site that pleases every one of its users is one that is totally one-sided and insidious. See my answer to your question about brainwashing via the Internet - I mention the problem there, as somewhat comparable.

Note that this is totally different from a forum dedicated to a specialist subject such as  a particular sport or hobby. I would still expect differing views there. However, these discussion-groups tend to be a lot more polite and constructive in exchanging views than some of the material on AM, and the differences can sometimes help an OP select the best one of various feasible solutions to the posited problem.

Thank you for your thoughtful analysis Durdle. I have never visited a site devoted to a special subject but I can't think of any reason why everyone wouldn't be (double negative..yikes) civil and pleasant.  I mean everyone there has something in common...an interest in the same subject. Wait. I think I'm wrong. I mean everyone who participates in answering questions about politics has an interest in the subject but the degree of attack/insult sometimes borders on the insane. So I withdraw that and just hope that civility is a common thread on every internet site. Here of course I ask whatever occurs to me about which I have some degree of curiosity. I'd like folks to reply if they have an interest and ignore if they don't. No matter the topic I think civility should be a very easy thing to bring along. Why it isn't I can't fathom so I don't worry about it. I once asked a question on Answerbag. If there were a news program that only reported on positive/good/uplifting things would the folks watch it? A few might but the ones who slow down for accidents and love to watch brawls wouldn't even try it out. So there you are! Thank you for your reply and Happy  Friday! :) This post was edited by RosieG at October 13, 2017 5:17 AM MDT

I agree entirely, Rosie! Unfortunately politics is one of the touchiest subjects there are, and many people seem unable to discuss it rationally because they have such strong feelings on it.

A lot of news programmes and publications I have heard or seen do give good news as well as bad.

I betcha the viewership drops during those good news segments. I betcha the folks watching get something to eat or visit the bathroom and then come back and are glued to the tube during the "racy exciting scandalous bloody" stuff. I have given up trying to understand the "why".  There must be one, right?  Thank you for your reply Durdle! :):):) ( The extra happy faces were just because I felt like it) :)

Well really those are four different qualities. But I would not mind - I become weary of constantly having all my beliefs attacked on a daily basis.  Which is why I have generally stayed away from politics and other controversial subjects on this site.

Well I don't view "suckuppy" as at all "positive".  Otherwise I try to be as positive as possible.  Happy Fri.

You don't? Someone who is a suckuppy puppy supports whatever there is without question or negative comment. That's semantics for you. What you think of when you see a word is not necessarily what others think of. And so it goes. Thank you for your reply.
